So I mentioned in my previous post that I purchased some essential oils. I’ve been using them for skincare this week (will post about that at some point), but today I thought I’d share a really easy way to use them to make your own reed diffuser! I absolutely love reed diffusers, so being able to make my own is a big plus.
Here’s what you’ll need (I pretty much just followed this website):
- small decorative bottle
- reeds
- your choice of essential oils
- carrier oil
- alcohol (vodka or rubbing alcohol)
For my carrier oil, I used castor because that’s really all I had. Its probably not the best choice since its kind of goopy. The tutorial I followed suggests safflower oil or sweet almond oil.
First, mix your carrier oil with your essential oils. Use 1/4 cup of carrier oil, and about 15 drops of essential oil (I used way more…oops!). You can use whichever essential oils you like. I used primarily lavender and lemon with a little bit of rosemary. Then, add 1 tsp of your alcohol. Make sure the alcohol concentration is at least 90% (I used some rubbing alcohol from the drugstore).
And that’s it!
(oh I completely forgot to mention that I have a new theme here that I made…enjoy!)

I love this simple DIY. I have some lemon essential oil left over from a previous DIY. It would be perfect for this!

It seems essential oils are also good in natural cleaning potions and for various DIY skin care. Thanks for sharing.
