PurMinerals Pressed Mineral Makeup

I have been super excited to try out this foundation and review it for you guys! I have been a BareMinerals girl for probably 3 or 4 years now. I’ve heard from friends that they prefer the PurMinerals foundation to the BareMinerals, so I’ve always wanted to try it to see if I would like it better. The most noticeable different between Bare and Pur is that the PurMinerals is in a pressed form. This makes it much easier to apply and especially to travel with. It also comes with a mirror and sponge applicator included. I wasn’t quite sure if I should get the Blush Medium or Golden Medium, but I went with Golden because it is supposed to compliment yellow undertones, whereas the Blush is for more pink undertones. I’m glad I chose this color because it is perfect for my skin tone! (way more-so than BareMineral’s Medium Beige, which tended to be a tad dark on me).

The directions say to “dip” your brush into the foundation and draw circles in the lid of the compact. Well…that didn’t work. At all. Like no product got onto my brush, so I’m not sure why that would be an effective method of application. Maybe its because I don’t have the special chisel brush that is supposed to be used with the foundation? I’m not sure, but what I ended up doing (and what I’ve been doing since I’ve started using this) is to swirl my brush about 2-3 times into the foundation. That is the only way that it will be able to pick up a decent amount of foundation to cover my face. I actually do this twice, since I always apply twice with mineral makeup. I don’t expect a lot of coverage with mineral foundations…after all, they’re supposed to be light and my Bare Minerals never gave me a very full coverage. This foundation really surprised me though! It gives excellent coverage for a mineral foundation (I would say about medium coverage if you use the right amount of product). My skin looked like porcelain when I was done applying! Any redness on my face had been covered and my skin looked smooth and even. I find that it has a bit more of a matte finish than Bare Minerals. Also, my foundation lasted me well through the day as well, even without primer! My Bare Minerals would always fade away by the end of the day if I did not use a primer with it.

Some other pros to this foundation…a lot of people complain who complain that Bare Minerals breaks them out do not have that same problem with Pur Minerals. This foundation has also received the highest rating on Beautypedia, which is definitely a plus! The one downside to this foundation is more-so based on the foundation’s claims rather than the product. They claim that it is 4-in-1 (concealer, foundation, sunscreen, and powder). I don’t really think it does all of those things. I still use concealer, and I still apply a moisturizer with sunscreen. The powder aspect might be true, although I still use a little powder over it. The one thing that this foundation is good for is just that…as a foundation! And it works very well as one.

Needless to say, I am definitely a PurMinerals convert and I absolutely love this foundation! I actually got mine at the Birchbox store, so if you have any Birchbox points saved up, that would be a great place to purchase it! It is also a dollar cheaper on Birchbox.

Ive also been using bare minerals forever, this could be a nice alternative to them. I must say I do get a little tired of it wearing off like you said and I’m not one to re apply it ever.. too lazy. lol. Great review!

@Ashley I would give it a try! If anything, it would be great to use when traveling because its less messy and comes with a sponge and mirror 🙂

@Santana yes! I have been wanting to try it foreverr…I was happy when the Birchbox store started carrying it b/c I could use points towards it (for some reason I couldn’t justify paying full price for a foundation when I already had a foundation that wasn’t used up yet haha)
