So I don’t know about you, but my skin goes absolutely bonkers when the weather starts getting cooler and the humidity in the air starts lessening (or really any change in season). What will work great for me during the summer does not hold up during the cooler months. My skin starts drying out and flaking up more easily! I think I’ve finally gotten it under control, though, so here are ways in which I’ve altered my skincare routine to account for the dryer weather!
- Exfoliating less often: While I love my philosophy afterglow exfoliating gel, I found that I cannot use it everyday like I did during the summer. My skin wants moisture, and that tends to dry it out more than it needs to. I’ve been using it only every other day, sometimes less often.
- Not using my Clarisonic daily: Same idea as with my exfoliating gel…the less I do to my face in the winter, the better! I used to use my Clarisonic everyday, but now I am only using it every other day or so. I am still using the same cleanser 2x day, CeraVe’s Hydrating Cleanser, which I feel is perfect for the winter months.
- Switching my toner: I love Clinique’s Mild Clarifying Lotion, but it has some slight exfoliating properties to it, so I wanted to switch to a more moisturizing spray that would not exfoliate. I have been using MD Formulation’s Antioxidant Spray, which received a best product rating on Beautypedia. It is a moisturizing spray, and it also contins anti-oxidants which are great for your skin!
- Changing my moisturizer: This wasn’t really intended for the winter months, but I picked up a new moisturizer because I ran out of my Yes to Carrots Daily Moisturizing Lotion, which I use during the daytime. Unfortunately, this is very hard to find in stores, so I picked up CeraVe’s AM Lotion instead, since I have been loving the CeraVe line. This moisturizer is actually more emoliant than the Yes to Carrots, so that is perfect for the cooler weather! I will be doing a full review of it in a future post. I also make sure to moisturize as soon as I can after cleansing my skin or getting out of the shower, since that will help my skin to not get dried out as quickly and the moisturizer will be better absorbed.
How do you take care of your skin during the cooler weather? Does your routine change at all, or is your skin not as affected by the changing climates?

Great information, my skin has been feeling drier and I randomly woke up with super flaky dry eyelids the other day. I should probably only use my Clarisonic every other day now!
A Thing of Beauty
I really need to get into the habit of not exfoliating as much too. But unfortunately all the cleansers that I own are exfoliating. It’s just frustrating(: Good tips to keep moisturized skin in the winter!
