RIP Tomato Plant

May 29, 2012 by Melanie

Happy Monday Tuesday!

Hope everyone had a good Memorial Day weekend. Mine could have been better…I wasn’t feeling too great and it was too freakin hot. I feel like I spent all weekend sweating and arguing with the bf about turning on the AC. I went out to the grocery store yesterday to get like 2 things, which isn’t that long of a walk, and I was literally dripping in sweat by the time I got back. You would have thought I went for a run. Have I mentioned I hate summer? Because I do. The good news is I finally found that bug spray stuff in the CVS! I spent Friday afternoon spraying that everywhere. Hopefully I won’t see any buggies this summer.

And speaking of critters…I put my tomato and basil plants outside for a little bit on Saturday, since you’re supposed to get them gradually acclimated to the heat/sun and it was quite sunny out. I went on the computer for no more than an hour, and I turn around a my tomato plant is gone. Like, completely not there save for the very bottom stalk. I just stared in disbelief for a while. To be honest, the tomato plant was getting annoying in its largeness and I was thinking about ditching it anyway (or re-potting it elsewhere) to focus on the basil, but that doesn’t mean I wanted a damn bird to eat the whole thing! I only assume it was a bird because earlier a bird was pecking at it and I shooed it away. Luckily, the bird or whatever it was didn’t seem to have a taste for basil because 3 out of 4 of the basil plants were untouched. I guess it ate the one and decided it didn’t like it? I re-planted some more basil in that spot, so hopefully that starts up soon. Needless to say, my basil isn’t going outside because I fear for its life! Anyone know what I should do? Is there something I should spray on it to keep the Philly wildlife away?? lol.

Wow! I can’t believe something STOLE your plant! I’ve never had that happen to me and we always put plants out on the deck. That’s good that you weren’t too attached to it!

@Deanna I know right? It wasn’t even a few leaves it was just like…the entire thing! There must be some real brazen animals around here haha especially since we’re on a balcony, not even on ground level.

Are you sure it’s not an evil squirrel?

You know those things to hold up the vines, can’t you make a barrier around it or something?? I honestly don’t know of any other solution.
